Planting fruits for health will require space and suitable planting materials. Choose a healthy variety of true rootstocks that are either grafted or budded seedlings. Always get these from realiable sources. Look out for ones of suitable mature size. Some self-fertilised or pollinated ones are okay too.
The problem of pests and diseases must be tackled from the beginning. Crop rotation is a good practice. Thorough preparation of the soil is necessary to prevent problems with soil borne pests or diseases. Another step you can take is to actually select more hardy and resistant varieties. You can also grow you vegetables under netting to avoid the use of pesticides.
Daily inspections and picking off young attackers by hand is possible if you only have a small plot. Planting vegetables can be even more critical in terms of the rate of growth and harvesting time. Thus having a good soil will ensure that half the battle of planting a garden of fruits and vegetables is already won.
Keep in mind that home-grown fruits and vegetables are also better for you because they are free of pesticides and organic in nature.
